Ward 5 Newsletter - November 2024

Veterans Day is Monday, November 11th. Thank you to all who served.

Items of Note for Tuesday’s, November 12th City Council Meeting:

  1. Public hearings on the appropriation of $400,ooo for recruitment and retention of winter operations CDL drivers. Report

  2. Parks & Recreation Director will be giving a presentation on the Memorial Field Master Plan Update.

**CORRECTION**

Per the October Council presentation, the three options for the Golf Clubhouse are more accurately described:

1. Rebuild, same footprint: $5,567,010, includes new furniture & simulator equipment

2. Rebuild, same footprint with addition: $8,289,327, includes new furniture & simulator equipment

3. New building, new location: $8,269,800, includes new furniture & simulator equipment.

There are a number of municipal buildings and spaces in the pipeline for renovation and reconstruction. The Clubhouse was renovated in 2001; the clubhouse debt was fully repaid in Fiscal Year 2017. Unfortunately, it seems as though in expectation of new buildings, maintenance is deferred. The pictures below are of the same spot in the Pro Shop:

October 2024

I will be requesting information on maintenance and repairs.

The Ad-Hoc Building Committee has not met since January. Their next meeting is Thursday, November 14, 8am. Public welcome!

I'll be at these events - connect with me!

New information regarding the Middle School Project:

  • Plans will be presented and a public hearing will be held at the Planning Board on December 18th. The City will provide an analysis of the plans at that time.

  • Per new Building Aid rules, Concord is eligible for significantly less than originally anticipated. The School District has determined only 40% of $100 Million is eligible.

  • If funds are available for School Building Aid, the NH Department of Education will provide Intent to Fund letters in December. As only $28.9 Million will be available and Concord is second in line, Concord can elect to stay on the ranked list to receive funding the following year. Improvements made to the school facility to address any deficiency in which the project was ranked on, including health, safety, or energy efficiency improvements, shall not remove the project from the ranked list.

To minimize public disturbance, residents near Concord High School will have bulk leaves collected on Monday. Rake leaves fully into the street.

Bagged leaf collection will begin on November 18 and is collected separately from trash. Since it may occur at any time during the week, ahead or behind your trash collection, place leaves at the start of the week at the curb by November 18, November 25, and December 2 in biodegradable yard waste bags or in rigid containers labeled for leaves.

Scenes from Ward 5: a bench and a bridge - highs and lows in Winant's woods

A walk in Winant's woods is therapeutic, especially when you need some perspective. The red trail will lead you to a bench where you can enjoy this view of our beautiful State House, the oldest in the United States still in continuous use by the state legislature. The gold dome rests above 400 representatives from across NH, the second largest legislature in the US, after Congress. Stay out of the mud on the bridge built in loving memory of Greg Grappone, connecting neighborhoods with the popular Langley pathway, a green space our community came together three years ago to protect. I hope you have many opportunities to enjoy the highs and lows in Winant's woods!
